Alternatives-to-Trick-or-Treat

As you know, Halloween is just around the corner. It is always an exciting time for the children. Weeks in advance they begin to look forward with anticipation to the sweet treats and the other goodies they hope to receive.

It is a fun and exciting day for the kids. Many are escorted around their neighborhoods and to retail stores. Some attend sleepovers or home parties.  Places of worship and group sponsored events are becoming more attractive to parents each year.

Regardless of the parent’s beliefs, the kids tend to love collecting candy and parade around in their colorful costumes.

A group of middle school children were asked to name the top three fun days in their lives. They ranked their birthday as number one, Christmas as number two, and Halloween as number three. No surprise there !

To ensure the safety and well being of the children, an increasing number of adults are exploring alternative environment for the children. They are becoming more creative and the children are loving it.

Here are a few suggestions if you are looking for ideas.

A trip to the pumpkin patch

Try apple picking. Sample some apple cider or the homemade goodies made by the merchants. While you are there, visit the farm and pet the farm animals.

Share your treats with a sick friend, or the children in the pediatric wing of the hospital.

Have a home party. Try  hosting it in your garage to avoid the traffic throughout your home. Include the kids, they make great party planners. At a moments notice, they will you help you craft a guest list, plan the menu, make decorations, and choose games that are popular with the kids.

Entertainment could include movies, games and karaoke and so much more.

The menu could include such items as pizza, tacos, hot dogs, or fresh baked cookies. Popcorn, popcorn balls,  cupcakes,             taffy apples, punch, apple cider or fresh blended juices.

Partnering with other parents can save lots of time, energy and money. It also open up opportunities to encourage others to join you and host upcoming events as well.
