Susan B. Anthony was an activist who had a passion for women’s rights. She joined the women’s movement at an early age, and dedicated her life to women’s causes. She was very unhappy, because she was not allowed to speak at rallies. Therefore she started her own newspaper called ” The Revolution”to support her cause and her ideas could be heard.
Confronted with opposition and abuse, she continued to travel across the country campaigning for abolishing slavery, women’s rights to own property and keep their money, and women’s right to vote.
She fought for….
women to be educated with men, “claiming that their brains were no different”.
She supported organized labor.
Susan believed in equal work for equal pay.
She fought for the children, of people who had been enslaved, to attend public school.
Susan wanted the right to vote so the politicians would listen, and stop ignoring her.
She believed in lobbying, campaigning, and collecting signatures on petitions as she continued to fight for her cause.
Her continuous fight for women’s rights eventually led to a change in the laws, and the state of Wyoming was the first territory granting women the right to vote in 1869.
Can you believe that approximately one hundred and fifty years later, some of the same issues are front and at the center of our elections and political discussions today?
